Managing Executive Parks Division (Fixed Term Contract)

SANParks requires the services of a Managing Executive Parks Division. This position is on a fixed term contract of 5 years and will be based in Groenkloof, Pretoria reporting to the Chief Executive Officer. The position provides both leadership and strategic direction for the execution of the Parks Divisional strategy and mandate through the efficient and effective utilization of resources.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Commerce / Business Management / Conservation/ Science / Tourism.
  • Senior management experience in a relevant field for a period of at least 10 to 12 years of which 7 years at Executive Management level.
  • Park Management Experience.
  • Financial Management and Commercial skills.
  • A sound understanding of legislative framework including corporate governance.
  • Ability to manage diversity within a complex environment
  • Knowledge of the Conservation and Tourism industry.
  • Strategic planning and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage and operate in a matrix environment.
  • Good communication, Networking and Stakeholder Relationship Building skills.
  • People management and Coaching skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and drive the Parks Divisional functional strategy aligned with the overall organizational strategy.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the Business Plan to deliver on strategic objectives.
  • Ensure business efficiency and optimize commercial opportunities.
  • Provide leadership, development, and management of human capital to build a high performance culture.
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders for mutual benefit.
  • Drive customer-centric service delivery and continuous improvement.

SANParks requires the services of a manager: Waste Management based in the Kruger National Park (KNP – Skukuza) to oversee and drive the Waste Management team under Infrastructure Management.

The ideal Candidate for the role will have experience in leading and managing a wide range of waste management operations in Infrastructure Management, both at Operational and strategic levels in a similar entity.

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Degree (B.Sc or B-Tech) in Environmental Management or Environmental Science.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ post qualification experience in the Waste Management, with at least two (2) years at supervisory/ line management level.
  • Experience in application of environmental and OHS laws, policies and strategies.
  • Valid Code 08 (B) drivers’ licence.

 KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Understanding of environmental issues, relevant legislation and international best practice within a Protected Area.
  • Effective Team Player and Effective Self-Management.
  • Proven experience with management of waste operations, compliance; monitoring, auditing and reporting;
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) (English).
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good team-working; networking and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

Operational Planning and Management

  • Set key performance goals and align operational plans with strategic objectives of SANParks.
  • Ensure financial, operational, and environmental targets are met.
  • Manage operations and maintenance of waste management sites to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Manage operational performance and implement improvements.
  • Ensure that waste operations comply with relevant legislation including SANParks Policies, SOPs and guidelines.
  • Undertake audits at waste sites to solicit compliance.
  • Manage upgrade, refurbishment and replacement of waste management infrastructure and equipment.

Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure all operations comply with environmental legislation, such as NEMWA.
  • Report waste volumes generated and recovered on the legislated system such as SAWIC.
  • Develop initiatives to minimize, reduce and recover waste in the KNP.
  • Promote sustainable waste practices in KNP.
  • Implement, monitor and report on waste management programmes.

Occupational, Health and Safety

  • Ensure that all operations comply with Occupational, Health and Safety Act and regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Participate in SHE Committee meetings and audits.

Financial Management

  • Manage operational budget.
  • Asset management as per SANParks Policies and SOPs.
  • Manage contracts and MoUs/MoAs.

 Human Resource Management

  • Management of Staff and administration
  • Plan for internal and external trainings of staff

Ranger Sergeant (Fixed Term Contract)

A challenging vacancy currently exists for one (1) Ranger Sergeant Positions at Addo Elephant National Park in the Zuurberg section on a fixed term contract ending December 2027. Successful candidate will be required to reside inside the national park as it is an operational requirement.

Requirements

  • A grade 12 certificate or equivalent.
  • National Diploma / NQF Level 6 in Nature Conservation or Natural Resource Management or equivalent.
  • Handle and Self-Loading Rifle Firearm Proficiency.
  • EMI Grade 5.
  • Code 8 Drivers licence. PDP will serve as an added advantage.
  • 2 -3 years’ work experience as a Field Ranger Lance Corporal and Full Corporal.
  • 2 years working experience in a supervisory role.
  • Relevant experience within operations, including all infrastructure maintenance, area coverage and antipoaching activities.
  • Previous practical experience with regards to natural resource management as mentioned in the second key performance area.
  • Previous practical experience with wild veld firefighting and management.
  • Sound communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A healthy person with a high level of general fitness and mental alertness is required in this position.
  • The willingness to be based at an outpost throughout the park.
  • Field Ranger Basic or Advance Training.
  • A firearm competency certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Assistance with natural resource management that includes the management of invasive plants, unnatural soil erosion, veld fires and game counts, capture, and culling.
  • Law enforcement that includes participating in regular foot and vehicle patrols and enforcing regulations within the park by assisting with the control of visitors as well as staff and also the assimilation, interpretation and dissemination of information.
  • To maintain law, order and discipline to staff members, communities, and guests.
  • To execute anti-poaching operations, through deployment, observation posts and camping.
  • To assists Section Ranger with long term routine tasks.
  • To maintain a high standard of administration.
  • To supervise and offer on the job training of subordinates.
  • To directly liaise with the section ranger for operations within the section.
  • To assist in creating and maintaining a culture of good corporate governance and pro-active risk management.
  • To ensure effective foot and vehicle patrols for maximum area coverage.
  • To participate in building purposeful relationships with key Stakeholders.

The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson C1 job grade and allowances and benefits as specified in the HR Tariff Document and Conditions of Services of SANParks. The successful candidate will be required to stay inside the park and there is available accommodation inside the park
