Description

Basic microbiological techniques including, but not limited to:
– Preparation of microbiological culture media.

    - Preparation of buffers and reagents.

    - Isolation of bacteria from a sample.

    - Serial dilution techniques.

    - Counting bacteria and determination of CFU/ml or CFU/g.

Monitoring and/or assisting glassware washing and sterilization.
Operating industrial autoclave, preparing soil and pot or Leonard jars for glasshouse trials.
Aiding with research projects (both laboratory and glasshouse).
Providing scientific assistance to maintenance of culture collection.

Requirements
Diploma in Crop Production with one (1) year experience in Science or Microbiology laboratory.
Experience working with samples that contain bacteria or fungi (e.g. soil, water or any other product).
Experience in operating the industrial autoclave.
Proficiency in English.
A valid driver’s license is an added advantage.

MSc INTERNSHIP -VIROLOGY (TWO (2) YEARS FIXED TERM CONTRACT)

Description

Undertakes MSc studies for two years in Plant Virology on maize infecting viruses.
Sampling maize and grass plants with viral symptoms in the field.
Conducting DNA/RNA extractions, (RT)-PCR, sanger sequencing and NGS for plant virus diagnostics.
Maintaining infected control plants.
Conducts infectivity trials in a controlled environment.
Provide research support to Crop Protection research projects as the affiliated postgraduate student.
Engages with relevant stakeholders within affiliated research projects.
Disseminate project results through, scientific or popular publications, conferences and peer reviewed publications.
Independent research.
Provide verbal/written reports on work activities and results to supervisor(s).
Requirements
BSc (Hons) in Plant Pathology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Microbiology or related field.
Applicants should be highly motivated graduates with a strong academic background, with a demonstrated capacity to conduct research at postgraduate level.
Previous lab experience (DNA/RNA extractions and RT-PCR) is desirable.
Knowledge of plant viral pathogens and diagnostic techniques will be an advantage
Capability of designing and carrying out high-level, complex research experiments independently.
Understanding of basic principles of research.
Basic computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office suite.
Good Communication Skills (Written and Verbal).
Ability to organize, priorities and work systematically.
Driver’s license.
Excellent English language (Spoken and written).

FINANCE ASSISTANT (Onderstepoort)

Description

  • Ensure timely processing and sending of invoices to customers.
  • Ensure that statements are sent to customers and that all payments due to ARC-OVR are collected.
  • Handle accounts queries.
  • Make necessary follow-ups on outstanding accounts.
  • Handling of internal and/or external enquiries and communicating with all stakeholders and customers.
  • Prepare and present monthly reports on outstanding debtors accounts.
  • Prepare monthly debtors reconciliations.
  • Maintain files and supporting documents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree/ National Diploma in Financial Accounting. 
  • Two (2) years working experience in Debtors.
  • Knowledge and experience in MS Office and ERP system.
  • Good communication Skills (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge and experience of Public Finance Management Act and GRAP.
  • Ability to use initiative and work independently and/or with the team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Deadline orientated and ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent Numerical and accounting skills.
  • Knowledge of Sage X3 will be an added advantage.
