Job description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 
Supportive role to Senior Accountant/Accountant/Assistant Accountant on the OU levels of the organization. To fulfil the Fiscal Officer role – provide fiscal, policy, and internal control management of accounts in the faculty/support department. Responsible for ensuring that processes and related controls have been established to achieve the mission and objectives of the NWU Financial Administration of the financial fragment in People and Culture related documentation and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Planning, Budgeting and Reporting

  • Take responsibility for the preparation and input of the faculty/support department annual budget on OU level.
  • Preparation of project proposals and budgets, including the adherence to the NWU financial policy and guidelines.
  • Compile and prepare reports where applicable.
  • Do the monthly variance reporting on the IDU system.
  • Assist the Accountant with the follow-up of financial/audit queries.

Monitoring and control

  • Keep abreast of changes in NWU financial policies and guidelines and advice, where applicable, management and staff on the NWU financial policies, guidelines and procedures.
  • Oversee/fulfil the KFS Fiscal Officer role.
  • Assist Senior Accountant/Accountant/Assistant Accountant in the budget control process – coordinate feedback from various entities.
  • Discuss OU financial results with OU managers.
  • Assist with the sundry debtor’s follow-up.
  • Assist in the monitoring of physical assets of OU.

Financial administration and support

  • Purchasing, transfers, initiating journals, invoicing of sundry debtors – on OU level (KFS and IDU functions).

Ad hoc assignments

  • Office administration (including compile and update databases and record management).
  • Personal development.
  • Preparing training material and assist with training workshops.
  • Delivering of other financial management task from time to time in coordination with director of Financial Planning.
Minimum requirements
  • A Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting 3 and/or Management Accounting 3 (NQF level 7).
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ financial/management accounting experience in a financial environment – exposure to various aspects of finance and management accounting.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in external funding applications and reporting (e.g. TIA, NRF).
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working on an ERP system (e.g. Oracle, KFS).

ADDED ADVANTAGE & PREFERENCE:

  • Exposure to budgeting, reporting and analytical reviewing.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Intermediate to advance proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven knowledge of general financial principles.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various functionally multilingual environments of the NWU.
  • Ability to multi-task and still function effectively and accurately under pressure.
  • Basic legal knowledge for contracts, SLA’s, NDA’s etc. review.
  • Proven knowledge of importation of goods and custom clearance.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Basic knowledge of the Engineering environment.
  • Ability to provide daily oversight on how the funds are spent.
  • Good communication, written and numeracy skills.

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Appointing a Senior Lecturer / Lecturer to contribute towards undergraduate and post graduate teaching, practice supervision of students and research supervision of post graduate students in the subject group Psychology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and learning, including higher degree supervision 

  • Engaged teaching and learning on both under- and- postgraduate levels: Develop study material, facilitate contact sessions, internal and external moderation and assessment.

Research and innovation

  • Engaged research: Supervision of postgraduate students; internal and external examination of post graduate research dissertations and/or theses; participation in the applicable research entity and publication of articles.
  • Independent research and sharing of expertise with diverse communities of practice and enquiry.

Social responsiveness and industry involvement  

  • Maintain involvement in community service as a scholarly practice. Execute activities by which discipline-based skills and knowledge are made relevant to the community.

Academic leadership, management and administration

  • Participate in faculty and school committees.
Minimum requirements
  • A master’s degree in Counseling Psychology (NQF level 9).
  • Registered as a Counseling Psychologist with the HPCSA.

SENIOR LECTURER:

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ teaching and learning experience in blended contact sessions with university students.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ research and innovation experience with a stable publication record (at least 2 articles) and supervision of post graduate students towards graduation.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ generic Counselling Psychology practice experience – direct practice and/or Counselling Psychology supervisory/ managerial.

LECTURER:

  • A minimum of one (1) year generic Counselling Psychology practice experience – direct practice and/or Counselling Psychology supervisory/ managerial.

ADDED ADVANTAGES & PREFERENCES:

  • A minimum of one (1) year teaching and learning experience in blended contact sessions with university students – Lecturer.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The NWU School of Music (Potchefstroom Campus) seeks to appoint one new academic staff member to assume teaching, research and creative work, and community engagement responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaching and Learning

•                          Accompany classical singers and instrumentalists.

•                          Accompany CCM (Musical Theatre) singing students.

•                          Accompany Jazz singers (recommendation).

•                          Recruit students.

•                          Write and amend study guides and devise new curricula.

•                          Accompany one of the ensembles of the school in either opera or musical theatre.

•                          Perform with students and staff at concerts.

•                          Teach Collaborative Piano Pedagogy and other areas of interest.

•                          Teach keyboard skills to non-piano majors.

•                          Collaborate and build effective relationships for successful model delivery.

Research

•                          Provide supervision at the undergraduate and appropriate postgraduate level.

•                          Research in any area of the discipline.

•                          Contribute to the vision and mission of the ViAMUS research entity.

Administrative duties

•                          Perform administrative tasks, including serving on committees.

Minimum requirements

JUNIOR LECTURER

•                          An honours or four-year undergraduate (NQF Level 8) degree in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano Studies.

•                          A minimum of one (1) year specialist lecturing and research (including producing creative outputs) experience in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano Studies at a higher education level.

•                          Extensive experience as a collaborative pianist with the ability to accompany in both classical and musical theatre (CCM) genres.

•                          Demonstrate the ability to supervise postgraduate students.

LECTURER

•                          A master’s (NQF Level 9) degree in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano Studies.

•                          A minimum of two (2) years’ specialist lecturing and research (including producing creative outputs) experience in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano Studies at a higher education level.

•                          Research (including creative outputs) experience on a higher education level.

•                          Evidence of significant experience as a collaborative pianist with the ability to accompany in both classical and musical theatre (CCM) genres.

SENIOR LECTURER

•                          A Doctorate (NQF Level 10) in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano Studies.

•                          A minimum of three (3) years’ specialist lecturing and research (including producing creative outputs) experience in Piano Performance or Collaborative Piano Studies at a higher education level.

•                          Significant research (including creative outputs) experience at a higher education level.

•                          Evidence of significant national and international experience as a collaborative pianist with the ability to accompany in both classical and musical theatre (CCM) genres.

•                          Evidence of postgraduate supervision on the master’s levels.

ADDED ADVANTAGES:

•                          Significant experience in classical, musical theatre and jazz genres.

•                          Experience as a repetiteur in opera and/or musical theatre.

•                          Skills in improvisation.

•                          Experience in ensemble work with instrumentalists.

•                          Specialist knowledge in the accompaniment of art song/lieder.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:

•                          Professional knowledge of collaborative piano techniques, theories, teaching strategies, and research methodologies.

•                          Knowledge of the repertoire, style and performance practice of piano accompaniment in various styles, including classical, opera, art song, jazz, and musical theatre.

•                          The ability to diagnose and remedy technical and interpretative challenges among collaborative piano students.

•                          The ability to recruit and retain excellent students.

•                          Additional duties may be assigned commensurate with the candidate’s expertise.

•                          Since the position involves staging productions during the evenings and performance/rehearsals over weekends, the incumbent must be willing to relocate to Potchefstroom.
